What can I drink in cold weather?
I know, I know, I could just drink tea. I love tea. Tea is great. But cocoa... there's something comforting and extra delicious about a hot cocoa when you set out to a school football game, or an evening stroll, or any outdoor event. I wanted to create something equally delicious that satisfied my craving for a warm beverage.
I came up with a simple solution - almond milk and sugar free flavoring syrup. Zero net carb warm goodness. Mix up whatever flavors you have on hand, or get creative!
If you're feeling like adding a little adult to your beverage, any low carb liquor will do the trick. Remember to use a nutrition tracking app to check your booze. I was surprised how many of the drinks I figured wouldn't be high in sugar actually are. Below, S/F means Sugar Free. Also, give the drink a little swirl while you hold it, the ingredients tend to separate a bit.
Here are a few I liked:
Almond Milk (1 cup)
S/F Caramel Syrup w/ Vodka (0g net carbs)
S/F Vanilla Syrup w/ Spiced Rum (0g net carbs)
S/F Raspberry w/ Vodka (0g net carbs)
Coconut Milk (1/3 cup)
S/F Vanilla Syrup w/ Malibu Rum (2g net carbs)
Admittedly, the coconut milk one is a little weird, but the serving size is only 1/3 cup. It grew on me after a few sips. The raspberry almond one was good, tasted like a warm fruit pie. I couldn't drink a whole cup's worth, but it was an interesting change up.
